Debating Champs
A big congratulations to our champs who won the Northern Wollongong Schools Debating competition. Apparently it was a very close final decision. The topic was the ‘Science does more harm than good’ and we were arguing the negative. Thanks goodness we love science and plenty to argue. We are all so proud of you! Both to the team on the day and the other debaters who had also represented the school as part of the team in earlier debates. Go team- Janae, Leena, Maya and Clara!

Pancake Day on Walk Safely to School Day Last Friday, our class had a Year 6 Fundraiser. We made over 300 pancakes to raise money for our end of year gift to the school, and raised $538!! Woohoo!! We had a maths planning day using the number of orders we had from students, and then we figured out how many pancakes we needed, then how many batches we would have to make. There was lots of creative mathematical thinking going on! And as planned, or luckily, we had enough pancakes! We had some legend chefs! On the Thursday afternoon, we made the batches, ready for cooking in the morning. We also celebrated ‘Walk Safely to School’ in the morning. Thanks to the parents who came to help us, and donated both groceries and money, and all the students who supported us.

Moulds and Microscopes As part of our unit on Rainforests and Microorganisms, we borrowed some compound microscopes to look at the moulds we grew on bread. VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100 VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100 VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100

Anzac Day At school we commemorated Anzac Day with a special assembly. Our school captains, Dacey and Alex led our assembly where we watched a video on the book “My Grandpa Marches on Anzac Day” and we sang the Last Australian. All the students made a red poppy and we placed it under our Australian flagpole.

Year 6 Discovery Day Last Friday in Week 8, we travelled to our local high school to discover what it will be like next year in Year 7. We had three rotations and tried out lots of different subjects like Science, English, Photography, Industrial Arts, Food Technology and Languages. There were lots of students from other nearby schools and we saw some ex-Coledale students. We had a great day! And a sausage sizzle!

Harmony Day on Grandparent’s Day Last Thursday in Week 8, we celebrated the theme of this year’s Harmony Day of ‘Everybody Belongs’ on Grandparent’s Day. We had nearly 100 family members visit our classrooms, morning assembly and playground for a sausage sizzle. In classrooms we used the augmented reality app ‘ Harmony Day Stories’  on our iPads. Even some of our grandparents had it on their iPhones! Then we made zentangle art using our hands and grandparent’s hands. We played outdoor games with them too
